Glen Haley New Jersey Strength and Power HoF inductee 2025

By Strength and Power Hall of Fame

A brief personal history:

Glen Haley was an avid power competitor specializing in Bench Pressing. He began to compete in Bench Press Competitions at the Master's Level ranging from 40-49 years old and at 242 bodyweights. Glen trained for benching throughout his earlier days, but due to the rigors of college and law school he chose to forgo competition. Then as with most competitors, he got the itch to compete in Bench only meets. At the time he began to compete, Bench only meets were becoming more popular. Glen often would hear people brag about how much they could bench at the gym. He would often say "that if you can do it in an official meet then it's on record". That motivated him to compete with the goals of benching 400 Raw (which he accomplished) and 500 equipped (which he narrowly missed on many occasions), hitting a high of 485. He also spends many hours training young athletes, helping them achieve their goals.

What led you to your sport:

Glen's initial exposure to competitive bench pressing was in his college days attending Jersey City State College (now NJCU). With his brother, Robert, a fellow Strength and Power Hall of famer working as the strength coach, a bench meet was conducted at the school. Glen won that event and he really showed promise. As mentioned prior, with the commitment of college, law school and a new family, competition was put on the backburner. However, the desire was always there.

Achievements in your sport:

Glen Haley's achievements in Bench Press covered several organizations. He competed in the Masters divisions 40-45 and 40-49, both raw and equipped. Glen was a WNPF World Champion, WNPL Raw Champion, WNPL National Single Lift Champion on multiple occasions, USAPL National Champion, Multi time WNPL NJ State Champion, USAPL state Champion.
