Bill Gillepsie Virginia Strength and Power HoF inductee 2025

By Strength and Power Hall of Fame

A brief personal history:

I have been a strength coach at multiple levels, ranging from high school athletes to major college programs and even the NFL. My passion for strength began early, as I started training seriously once I understood what strength truly meant. Throughout my athletic career, I was also a four-time All American in college track and field, which deepened my appreciation for disciplined training and performance excellence. This blend of personal experience and professional coaching shaped my approach to strength development.

What led you to your sport:

The passion to develop strength, combined with a deep understanding of the science behind training, has always driven both my work and personal growth. Knowing how to build strength correctly, using proven techniques and tailored methods, allows me to help others achieve their best results, safely and effectively, every time.

Achievements in your sport:

Throughout my career, I have set a total of 133 World Records, demonstrating years of dedication and passion for strength. At the age of 62, I achieved an incredible milestone by setting the All Time World Record in the bench press, successfully lifting 1129.8 pounds. This accomplishment was made even more unique because I believe I became the first individual ever to set both the drug tested world record and the non-tested world record in bench press on the very same day.

State, National and World records.

I have set so many state, National and American records that I lost count about 30 years ago.

Other accomplishments.

I’ve been fortunate to coach ten athletes who ultimately became NFL Hall of Famers. My journey also included coaching at the University of Washington during our remarkable 1991 National Championship season. In 2024, I was deeply honored to be inducted into the Liberty University Hall of Fame for my dedication to the sport.

Activities within the sport:

I travel the country speaking to strength coaches and remain deeply involved in the sport, regularly judging meets and hosting numerous competitions throughout my career.
