Personal history:

Gene developed a passion for strength and fitness at the age of 13 and began lifting weights, a journey that has continued throughout his life. Over the years, he has competed in a variety of sports, including soccer, bodybuilding, Olympic weightlifting, triathlons, adventure racing, and Highland Games. His dedication to strength training and athletic performance has remained unwavering. Now in his 60s, Gene continues to train, push his limits, and inspire others with his lifelong commitment to fitness and competition. His passion for strength has shaped his journey, proving that age is no barrier to staying active and strong.

What led you to your sport:

His Irish and Scottish ancestry deeply connects to the rich traditions of the Highland Games. The sport’s diversity, strength, and heritage inspire him, making it more than just competition—it’s a celebration of culture, athleticism, and history that he is proud to be a part of.

Achievements:

3x Masters World Champion, 2010, 2012, 2013 Held multiple World Records in Sheaf, Light and Heavy Hammer and light weight for distance.

State, National and World records:

World records past held; Sheaf, New Hampshire HG LH, HH, Sheaf and LWFD, Glasgow Highland Games

Other Accomplishments:

National Masters Weightlifting Champion 3rd place Georgia super natural bodybuilding championship Finisher 305 and 300 mile adventure races Coached and competed in Olympic Weightlifting

Other Activities:

TV commentator for Celtic Classic Highland games. Judged numerous games Trained Highland games athletes Started OBX Weightlifting team, youth and masters
