Denis Reno began weight training at home around 1950. He engaged in Olympic lifting as member of US Air Force, 1958-’62, founding Otis AFB Weightlifting Club (non-sanctioned). In the 1960s/‘70s he was a Local referee and competitor in Weightlifting competitions. Appointed Secretary of New England WL/AAU 1969. That same year he established Denis Reno’s Weightlifter’s Newsletter, continuously published ever since. In 1970 he was elected Chairman, New England WL (which at the time included Powerlifting, Physique). Became USA National Referee in 1971. Coach, Frank’s Barbell Club, Norwood, MA 1971-‘76. Organizer/coordinator/coach of Junior WL camps (Boston YMCA and in Willimantic, CT) in 1972-’74. Reno became IWF Cat. 2 International Referee in 1973. That same year he was Manager of USA Team to Junior Pan-Am Championships, Mexico. Served as National Chairman, AAU Junior Olympic WL, 1973-’77. Manager of 4-nation tour of Europe by USA Under-23 Team in 1974. Denis became an IWF Cat. 1 International Referee in 1976. That and ensuing year saw him serve as National Coaching Coordinator, USA Olympic WL. Late 1970s/early 1980 found him as Region 1 Chairman, USA Olympic WL. Denis Reno was elected to USA Weightlifting Hall of Fame, 1979. From 1979-’85 he was Coach, Rock Barbell Club, Middleboro, MA. Manager/Coach of USA Team to WL competition in Port Said, Egypt in 1982. Expeditor at Weightlifting competition at Summer Olympic Games, Los Angeles, CA (1984). In 1985/’87/’88 he was Manager/Coach of USA teams to Montreal Cup, Quebec, Canada. He was an Official at Women’s World Championships, Daytona Beach, FL in 1987; Team Leader, USA Women’s teams to World Championships, 1988/’89; Coach, USA Women’s Team Training Camp, Colorado Springs, CO, 1989. In 1992 Denis wasTeam Leader, USA WL Team at Summer Olympic Games, Barcelona, Spain. From 1969 to present day, Reno has served as Speaker, referee, technical official at numerous local, state, regional, national and international sanctioned WL competitions. He served several stints as New England LWC President, most recently 2008-’12. As a Masters lifter Denis holds all the New England Records in the 62 Kilos Class in Age Groups 65-69 and 70-74.
