Samuel “Sam” Termine Jr.

9/1/1909-5/20/1978

1932 Olympic Team

Sam was born in New Orleans but moved to California when he was five. Sam represented the Los Angeles Athletic Club during his lifting career. Shortly after the 1932 Olympics, Sam had a near-fatal automobile accident, forcing him to retire from lifting. He moved to Escondido, California, in 1952 and established a trenching business until he died in 1978.

Not much is known about Sam’s lifting career at this time. At the 1932 AAU Senior Nationals, Stanley Kratkowski and Joe Miller tied for 1st place with a 680 total. I am unsure if Sam lifted at the 1932 seniors or was selected for the 1932 Olympic Team in a later tryout. Possibly, Sam could have been an ACWLA Champion before 1932. The Los Angeles Athletic Club had a large weightlifting team in the 1920s and Sam probably won several State and local championships.
