Firpo started lifting in the 1930’s in New Jersey. Firpo lifted for the Bates Barbell Club. Since Firpo was about 4’2” tall the 112lb class was a great class for him. He set several World Records in the Press and held all the National records in his class. Unfortunately, the 112lb class was eliminated in about 1940. Still, Firpo was a 2X National Champion and was a State and regional champion several times.
