John Reginald “Reg” Roberts 9/11/1928 – 2/13/2013. AAU National Weightlifting Referee 1968. Weightlifting coach Bon Air Athletic Club Richmond Va. Coached and lifted for the Richmond YMCA. 2^nd State Championships 1958 heavyweight. 4^th Capitol District Weightlifting Championships 1961 heavyweight.  4^th Hampton Roads Weightlifting Championships 1961 Heavyweight.  4^th Norfolk Open 1961 heavyweight. 3^rd State Championships 1962 heavyweight. 2^nd Chesapeake Bay Invitational 1963 heavyweight. 2^nd Old Dominion Weightlifting Championships 1963 heavyweight. 3^rdColonial Olympic Weightlifting Meet 1964 heavyweight. 5^th Chesapeake Bay Invitational Meet 1964 heavyweight. 4^th State Championships Heavyweight 1968. 3^rdBlue Ridge Invitational Heavyweight 1968. Reg organized meets in the Richmond area for 30+ years and assisted as a judge, loader and expediter at meets for decades. Reg had a gym at his home that lifters could train in at almost any hour. The gym was in a large detached garage and equipped with Eleiko barbells. Reg would coach lifters and allow them to use his gym at no charge. I had the privilege of training at Reg’s home gym and it was always intense and fun. A very productive environment.
