In 1967 James was riding his bicycle through his neighborhood when he observed John Callis training in his garage.  James starting training with John and joined the LPWC led by Bob Crist.

James was invited to and participated in the 1970 Teenage Olympic Training Camp held in York Pa. 

James is a national level referee.

James has been supporting weightlifting for 53 years and is still doing so. James still officiates and MC’s when needed.
