Bill Lindsey
Overview
Bill Lindsey (aka William Lindsey) has been involved in the powerlifting community for 30+ years and is a multi-world, national, and state powerlifting champion. Bill is a National referee for the USAPL and AAU and a Sanction II (‘National’) referee for 100% RAW Powerlifting Federation, and he served as Virginia State Chairman for the USAPL.
He has trained with and coached several world, national, and state champions, most notably Bettina Altizer (a USAPL Women’s Hall of Fame Inductee, 2005), Willie Morris (deceased), Bill Ennis, Tim McCoy (deceased), and Ruthie Meininger.
Some of his many achievements are listed below.Lifter
Bill was born in 1946, and he first became interested in powerlifting while at Fork Union Military Academy where he was on the football team. He went on to college, still playing football. He joined the US Navy and was a Naval Aviator assigned to the USS Coral Sea. After he left the Navy, work became a priority although his love for the sport continued to grow, and he could be regularly found in the gym. He never thought about competing until the late1980’s and he won his first meet in April 1988. He was hooked.
He has competed in many powerlifting federations over the years, but primarily with the USAPL (and its predecessor, the ADFPA), IPF, AAU, 100% RAW Powerlifting Federation, Southern Powerlifting Federation (SPF), NASA, USPF, and USPA, along with a few others. He has set several state, national, and world records within those organizations, but the one record he is most proud of is the one that will never be broken: he was the first person in his age and weight (55-59, 198# class) to bench press over 400# for the USAPL. Bill is extremely proud to say he is a lifetime drug-free powerlifter, and all his accomplishments have come from hard work and training with the best to be the best.
Bill’s achievements in powerlifting have earned him invitations to become a member of the Masters World Team and represent the United States in several World meets over the years, but due to his work schedule, he was not able to accept them. However, all that changed once he retired from work and he was able to, and did, accept the invitations to become a member of the Masters World Team for the IPF Masters World Bench Press Championships which was held in Schwedt/Oder, Germany (September 2007; First Place) as well as the IPF Masters World Powerlifting Championships held in Palm Springs, California (October 2008; First Place - Bench Press, Third Place - Full Meet).
A brief overview of the majority of his lifetime meet results is below. A more detailed listing by organization is attached.
